Frequently Asked QuestionsPaint Protection FAQ

This is a common occurrence with Paint Protection Film of all brands. The light will reflect from a car's surface and travel through the film where it will slightly polarize in areas that are stretched. Thus, when viewed through polarized glasses these areas may appear to have some iridescence. Polarized glasses have the same effect on a variety of multi-layer surfaces made of glass or plastic such as ATM screens.

Over time, as dust and dirt accumulate along the edge of the film, the edge will be more noticeable. Once the car is cleaned, it will be difficult to detect unless looking for it. To remove dirt and excess wax that may be collected at the edge of the film use isopropyl alcohol and microfiber wipes and gently clean along the edges.

MAX ARMOR Paint Protection Film is designed to be applied to the original paint. There are potential issues of paint removal associated with aftermarket/repaired paint. Max Armor’s warranty does not cover such issues.

Theoretically, Max Armor Paint Protection Film can be applied to any smooth painted surface. However, the paint is designed for automotive applications. Non-automotive use is not warranted.

The car surface protected with Max Armor Paint Protection Film will fade at the same rate as the unprotected area of your vehicle.

Yes. Any smooth original painted surface can be covered with Max Armor Paint Protection Film.

Yes, Max Armor Paint Protection Film can be applied over chrome surfaces. However, this may alter the appearance of the chrome finish. We recommend applying a small trial swatch of film over the surface to evaluate the appearance before installing.

No. Placing Paint Protection Film on a windshield will increase distortion, especially when looking through angled windshields. Such distortion will not allow for the safe operation of the vehicle.

Max Armor Paint Protection Film can be applied over a vinyl wrap or graphics. However, trapped air at the edges may cause air bubbles over time so our warranty does not cover such installation.

No special maintenance is required for Max Armor Paint Protection Film. However, regular car washing is recommended after waiting a minimum of 3 days to allow the film to fully cure to the car.

Yes. Detailing clay can be used to remove stubborn contamination from the surface of Max Armor Paint Protection Film. Use soapy water to wet the surface and then gently rub with the clay bar. For spots, bug and tar-removing shampoos can be used.

You can use non-abrasive waxes to add additional protection to the film surface. Avoid colored waxes or waxes that contain more than 5% VOC content such as petroleum naphtha. In addition, ceramic coatings can be used with Max Armor Paint Protection Films. Such coatings will increase the resistance of film from chemicals and water while not impairing film performance.

Max Armor brand Paint Protection Film is warrantied against cracking, bubbling, or yellowing caused solely by defects in manufacture or materials for 10 years from the date of purchase of the product. Contact an authorized distributor/dealer for warranty details

No, Max Armor Paint Protection Film warranty is non-transferable.

Remove the film by pulling at 45° towards yourself. Do not pull the film at over a 90° angle and do not try to rip the film off the car surface as it may transfer some of the adhesive to the car paint. Consider using a steamer in cold weather environments – this will soften the film and adhesive and aid in removal.

Max Armor Paint Protection Film is designed to be applied to the original factory paint, so it is unlikely for paint protection film to harm paint upon removal. However, to avoid adhesive transfer to the paint, remove the film following our guidelines by pulling at 45° towards yourself.

Max Armor Paint Protection Film topcoat is formulated for long-lasting gloss retention. The minor scratches and mars caused by normal wear, such as car washes are eliminated over time. When exposed to heat; sun, or warmth from motor running, minor scratches will disappear, and the surface will be restored to its original high gloss appearance. If the topcoat is penetrated by a deeper scratch the surface will not self-heal.

The self-healing topcoat of Max Armor Paint Protection Film is designed to repair itself from light scratches induced by normal use such as car washes, etc. The purpose of Paint Protection Film is to act as a sacrificial layer between a piece of debris and car paint. If a piece of debris is large enough to penetrate the topcoat, the film will not self-heal. At that point, the damaged film piece will need to be replaced.

Clean the bird droppings, bugs, and visible contaminants on the car regularly. If a stain will not wash off with a regular car wash, apply isopropyl alcohol to a microfiber towel and clean the stain. If ineffective, a small amount of paint thinner added to a microfiber towel can be used to clean the stain. In severe cases, use mild abrasive wax/polishing compound to polish the surface until the stain is not visible. We do not recommend repeating the use of abrasive wax/polishing more often than once every two years as it will eventually remove the topcoat from the film. Only polish the vehicle with abrasive compounds when necessary.

Our topcoat is formulated to repel a wide variety of road-related contaminants: such as tar, oil, and transmission, radiator, and windshield fluids. Max Armor Paint Protection Film is highly resistant to solvents, acids, bases, bug splatter, and bird droppings. To avoid staining, clean visible contaminants on the car regularly. If cleaning and care instructions are ignored or if the film is exposed to extreme staining chemicals, slight discoloration may occur.

If the temperature is above 60°F (15°C) we strongly recommend keeping the car indoors for at least 3 hours so that the installer can observe and correct any installation imperfections. Ideally, this waiting period should be 24 hours.

During the colder months, the car should not be moved outside for at least 12-24 hours after installation to ensure that water dries properly and the film anchors. If the outside temperature is below freezing keep the car under the infrared heaters overnight to ensure proper film drying/curing.

Using a regular car wash is recommended after waiting a minimum of 3 days to allow the film to fully cure. During the winter months, the waiting period may need to be longer. We do not recommend using pressure washers or car washes that use handheld pressure washers. If such a car wash is used, inform wash employees that the car has paint protection film. To avoid lifting the paint protection film the distance from the pressure washer nozzle to the film surface should be at least 45cm (1.5ft).

You can use non-abrasive waxes to add additional protection to the film surface. Make sure to avoid colored waxes or waxes that contain more than 5% VOC content such as petroleum naphtha.

You can use non-abrasive waxes to add additional protection to the Matte film surface. However, waxes will generally add gloss to Matte Paint Protection Film and will alter the appearance of your vehicle. Pick the wax that is formulated for Matte Finishes.

We do not recommend adding any coatings that may interfere with film adhesion before having Max Armor Paint Protection Film installed. This includes any waxes, ceramic, or other coatings.

I have been tinting for 15 years and have used a variety of different film manufactures. I switched to Maxpro around 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back! This film shrinks and forms easily. There has not been one vehicle come into my store that I have had any problem doing the rear window in one piece. Their warranty policy is easy and no hassle! Lastly, the film is carries a great price so there is room to allow me to make a substantial profit. This company allows me to save time and money while offering a product that my customers love!

Eric Oetjen, Illinois

Just wanted to follow up with you after my first order. Everything arrived this morning like you said it would and I have already used the new tint on a job. I have been tinting for a little over 20 years (yes I am a dinosaur). In the past I have used Llumar, Madico, 3M, Solar Guard, Sun Guard, SunTek, Wintek/Soltek and I am sure I am forgetting a few. I absolutely love the way your tint “feels” and lays out. I honestly wish I would have switched to this brand years ago. Thank you for marketing such a great product and I look forward to a long and prosperous business relationship with your company.
