Architectural Window Film Installation Instruction
Following these steps will help ensure a professional and long-lasting installation of your architectural window film.
Before you begin: Assess and understand the glass type and size needed before selecting film for application.
1. Measure & Clean
Measure the window accurately to ensure the correct size of the film.
Clean the window thoroughly with a mixture of water and baby shampoo. Ensure there is no dust, dirt, or grease on the surface.
2. Cut & Prepare
Cut the film 1 inch wider and longer than the glass to account for any adjustments.
If the frame isn’t square, allow the film to overlap slightly for proper coverage.
3. Wet the Glass & Film
Spray the glass and the adhesive side of the film with a slip solution or application solution. Be sure there are no dry spots before placing the film on the glass.
4. Apply the Film
Starting at the top, position the wet film on the wet glass, working your way down.
Keep the top edge level and press the film firmly into the corners and edges.
5. Smooth & Remove Bubbles
Use a plastic squeegee to work from the center out, removing excess solution and air bubbles.
Apply enough pressure to remove most of the water and solution, leaving the film flat and smooth.
Textured films may require more pressure and attention to ensure a smooth finish.
6. Trim
Use a utility knife to trim any excess film from the edges of the window.
Leave a gap of ⅛ – ¼ inch between the film and the frame to allow the edges to seal properly.
